Intelligent Automation for Healthy Future

Festo debuted at CACLP 2023

From May 28th to 30th, the 2023 China International Laboratory Medicine and Blood Transfusion Instrument and Reagent Expo (CACLP) will be held at the Nanchang Greenland International Expo Center. With the theme of "Intelligent Automation for Healthy Future", Festo, a global leading enterprise in the field of automation technology and techical training, made its debut at CACLP, showcasing automation technology and innovative solutions suitable for the life science industry. With the continuous growth and aging of the world population, as well as the improvement of people's living standards, the demand for medical diagnosis and treatment is constantly increasing. The increase in the number of samples to be tested has put forward higher requirements for the ability and processing speed of laboratory services such as in vitro diagnosis. The application of automation technology in the life science industry has therefore received unprecedented attention. Not only does routine clinical diagnosis require faster and more accurate test results, but it also places greater emphasis on personnel safety; Taking the highly infectious and highly pathogenic COVID-19 as an example in recent years, it puts forward the most direct demand for the automation of the whole process involving sample pre-processing, inspection and detection, and sample storage.

Based on local for local concept, empowering the automation transformation and upgrading of the life science industry

As a German family-owned enterprise with a history of nearly 100 years, Festo uses its mature automation technology application and experience in automobile manufacturing, 3C and other fields to expand the landing opportunities in the vertical field of life science industry, help laboratory automation, and enable the transformation and upgrading of life science industry automation.

China is a strategic development market determined by Festo Group. According to Lu Yanyan, Vice President of Market Management for Festo's Greater China Business Area, "Festo has accumulated a lot of mature automation technology application experience in the field of life sciences in Europe and the United States. We hope to bring these mature experiences to the Chinese market and grow together with customers. Everything we do is to respond to market demand more quickly and flexibly. The Chinese market is full of vitality and potential, and we have built localized end-to-end services that are both price competitive and highly flexible, providing coverage A complete value chain from procurement, research and development, production, to delivery and service. Based on German quality and Chinese speed, we aim to serve the local market. In the life sciences industry, we have established a professional vertical industry team to serve customers in this industry, in order to more accurately grasp market dynamics and demand."

Enable laboratory automation, and make liquid treatment efficiency reach a new height

For the field of life science applications, a titration error of only a few microliters may lead to ineffective efficacy or conversion to toxicity. The accuracy of liquid handling is crucial, as the difference is a thousand miles. How to ensure the accuracy of sample movement in the face of diverse media and fluid characteristics? How can laboratories be flexibly adapted to different fluid characteristics? How to effectively balance the safety, stability, and efficiency of liquid movement?

At this CACLP exhibition, Festo will showcase fully automated sample preprocessing units. This solution is tailored for the life science industry and can achieve full process automation of sample pre-treatment, including loading, automatic scanning and storage, automatic opening, automatic liquid transfer, and closing. Integrating Festo's "golden partner" product portfolio applications in liquid control, gas drive, and electric drive. The mass flow controller VEMD/VEAD accurately controls gas pressure and flow rate. The compact and lightweight EHMD rotary grabbing module can achieve high-speed, multi turn, and infinite rotation, accurately unscrewing and tightening the reagent bottle cover. The combination of a positive and negative pressure generator and a pipette DHOE enables precise handling and transfer of liquids from microliters to milliliters. The medium separation electromagnetic valve VYKA with small size and large flow rate can achieve precise and non-contact separation and titration of trace amounts, with a drop accuracy of up to micro liters.

In addition, on medical equipment such as ventilators and anesthesia machines, the Festo proportional flow control valve VPWS can proportionally adjust the flow rate of the medium used, including air, oxygen, and inert gases. Festo piezoelectric valve VEAE has been widely used in medical devices such as oxygen concentrators for chronic disease management. Piezoelectric valve VEVA has small volume, large flow rate, and stability, and can be used for controlling medium flow in mobile passive medical devices. Compared with solenoid valves, proportional valves with piezoelectric technology adopt the principle of capacitance, which requires almost no energy to maintain the active state. Only when starting, current is needed to charge the piezoelectric ceramic, which has low energy consumption, no self heating, no working noise, and a very long service life. It is very suitable for medical environments.

As a responsible family business, Festo is an ideal partner and a driving force for sustainable development. With innovative automation products and solutions to address environmental and demographic challenges, Festo also calls on industry colleagues and partners to work together to contribute to improving the level of healthcare for all humanity.
