Sustainability as part of our corporate strategy

With the start of the new strategic period in 2025, we have made sustainability an even bigger part of our corporate strategy and defined two clear, measurable goals:

Reducing our Scope 3 emissions

By 2030 we aim to reduce our Scope 3 emissions from the upstream value chain and from the use phase of our products by 25 per cent compared to 2022. This target was validated in 2024 by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Greater diversity and a higher proportion of women in leadership roles

We aim to specifically increase the number of women in leadership roles and further strengthen diversity across all areas of the organisation.

By incorporating these objectives into our corporate strategy, we are making it clear that, for Festo, sustainability is an integral part of corporate governance, both internally and externally.

Our new sustainability strategy

For the new strategic period, we have taken a systematic approach to developing our sustainability strategy in line with international standards. The starting point was the dual materiality analysis in accordance with the CSRD, which takes into account both financial materiality and impact materiality.

The analysis has shown that the following five ESRS standards are essential for Festo:

  • E1 – Climate protection
  • E5 – Use of resources
  • S1 – Our own staff
  • S2 – Workers along the value chain
  • G1 – Business conduct

Based on these findings, we have identified five strategic ESG areas that form the basis of our new sustainability strategy. By the end of 2025 , specific targets were adopted for each of these strategic areas. The company-wide implementation will begin in 2026 – globally, consistently and with clear responsibilities.

Science-based climate targets

Consistently avoiding or reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions) is a top priority of the global sustainability strategy at Festo. We have set ambitious, science-based climate targets to limit global warming to 1.5 °C compared to pre-industrial levels. These targets were officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in February 2025. The SBTi is an independent initiative that evaluates the reduction targets based on the findings of climate science.

In line with the overarching 'net zero' target, we are committed to absorbing as many greenhouse gases along the value chain (Scope 1-3) by 2050 as we release.

In order to achieve the targets for Scope 1 and 2, we are implementing a global infrastructure plan and pursuing a global green electricity strategy. We are also continuing to invest in energy efficiency measures and are expanding our photovoltaic (PV) systems.

To reduce GHG emissions along the value chain (Scope 3), we are focusing on the shortest possible supply chains through increasing regionalisation and the 'local for local' concept. When it comes to our products, we take sustainability into account right from the start of the product development process. That enables us to optimise the CO₂ footprint in production and the energy consumption during operation.
