Highlights

Bioreactor

Application:
A bioreactor provides a suitable growth environment that simulates the internal conditions of a living organism for microorganisms or enzymes to carry out biochemical reactions in vitro. This enables rapid proliferation of microorganisms or cells and efficient formation of products. Bioreactors are essential in important biological processes such as synthetic biology product manufacturing, gene-engineered recombinant proteins, DNA vaccines, 3D tissue cell culture, and amplification of microbial cell factories.

Festo Solutions:
The control parameters of bioreactors involve both liquid and gas phase supply, including stirring speed, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and fluid dynamics. Festo’s bioreactor solutions not only provide precise gas control but also offer high-performance stirring servo systems and remote IO function modules to ensure optimal bioreactor operation.

Festo’s VEMD mass flow controllers and 18-channel VEAE switching valves complement each other to achieve precise regulation and on/off control of air, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. The VEMD supports multiple gas media such as air, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen, and features a rich set of analog and digital interfaces: analog inputs of 0…5V / 0…10V / 4…20mA; digital communication interfaces including Modbus TCP and RS232/RS485. The VEAE valve assembly integrates 18 piezo valves in a compact structure, optimized for gas circuits with low leakage, low power consumption, long service life, and oxygen compatibility.

Stirring speed control in bioreactors directly affects the fluid dynamics and cell growth inside the reactor. Too low stirring speed may cause cell sedimentation, impairing oxygen and nutrient transfer. Too high stirring speed may expose cells to excessive shear forces, causing damage. Festo’s high-performance EMMT servo motors combined with multi-protocol CMMT servo drives provide precise force, speed, and position control via PN, EC, EP, or Modbus TCP buses. Featuring high dynamics and extremely low holding torque, this combination ensures excellent adjustability, synchronization, and tracking accuracy.

Microwell plate Washer

Application:
In life science applications, even microliter-level titration or liquid handling errors can cause inaccurate test results, making precise liquid dispensing and transfer critical. A microplate washer is a medical device specifically designed to clean microtiter plates. It is usually used in conjunction with a microplate reader and works by repeatedly shaking and washing to separate bound and free phases during enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). The washer removes residual substances after microplate detection to ensure testing accuracy and improve experimental reliability. It is widely used in laboratories of hospitals, blood banks, disease control centers, reagent manufacturers, and research institutes.

Festo Solutions:
Festo’s VTOI dispensing head, combined with a compact two-axis system for rapid movement and the PGVA positive/negative pressure generator to provide compressed air or vacuum, enables fast cleaning of microplates. The VTOI dispensing head, PGVA, high-performance media valve VYKA, and valve control module VAEM work seamlessly together. By simply setting the pressure and valve switching time, microliter-level dispensing and siphoning can be achieved. Beyond individual components, Festo also offers customized functional modules or complete solutions tailored to customer needs.

We also have a new application that will be unveiled for the first time at the exhibition—stay tuned!
