The numerous and varied process automation requirements that industry has to master need highly qualified, specialised personnel who need to be trained far beyond the mere basics. Since it is prohibitively expensive to switch off an industrial system or to build a real, functional system exclusively for teaching purposes, there is a need for learning platforms that represent the industry as realistically as possible.
Very few learning systems for process automation are truly industry-oriented yet also flexible enough to be suitable for educational, training and research purposes. Our learning solutions for industrial closed-loop control technology are one of these rare industry-oriented AND flexible offers.
The learning concept for this system series is based on a combination of detailed courseware covering the entire area and industry-class equipment in accordance with industry standards.
The solutions are modular so specialists can adapt them precisely to the learning requirements in a wide range of contexts, without the need for too much equipment. This will enable them to train young employees in process automation and to update or expand the skills of experienced employees, and even to support research and development activities.
There are a number of configurations available for the systems. Optional equipment further expands the range of options. Thanks to this flexibility, the learning systems can be gradually expanded to cover the further development of technologies and processes.
Our closed-loop control training program is suitable for operators, mechanics, control, electronics and process technicians, mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers and electronics engineers as well as other professionals, such as software developers who need sound knowledge of the main processes and equipment used in the industry. The hardware can also be used, for example, in research projects on cyber security or in new, modern control algorithms (control of artificial neural networks).
Our learning systems are equipped with two double-sided mobile workstations that are linked together with a hitch mechanism:
This recreates the widespread industrial practice of separating the process environment from the instruments and controllers and limiting the risk of these devices coming into contact with water.
The learning solutions are part of the closed-loop control technology program, which uses modern equipment and a comprehensive syllabus to provide students with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to work in closed-loop control technology.
During the course, the students first familiarise themselves with the learning system and then continue with the measurement followed by basic and advanced closed-loop control technology. Specific instructions or manuals are also available for a large number of components, so that all devices are well documented.
The theory is explained clearly and simply. The practical tests are described in detail and illustrated in order to facilitate independent learning.
This complete learning program provides comprehensive training and thus an increased return on investment and better preparation for the workplace.
Many system components are equipped with a transmitter that communicates via the HART or FOUNDATION fieldbus protocol.
Most of these devices can usually be configured manually via an alphanumeric display and/or keys or via a remote computer. Calibration kits are available for each protocol.
The systems are equipped with a wide range of sensors, transmitters and controllers from well-known brands such as Honeywell, Endress+Hauser, Rockwell Automation, Fisher and Foxboro. This means that learning is based on industry standards, and the actual processes can be easily replicated for teaching purposes.
The following software programs are available for successful laboratory tests and an accurate understanding of the processes:
Troubleshooting for industrial process devices should be an integral part of training. Our learning systems include a wide range of tools that experts can use to easily plan troubleshooting tasks for students. Errors can be inserted into most devices such as controllers, PLCs, transmitters, etc. using various methods.
The learning systems for pressure, flow rate, level and temperature processes introduce students to a wide range of industrial processes with the appropriate instruments, controllers and troubleshooting procedures.
The system also provides knowledge on complex control strategies, for example for controlling a boiler level. The students can apply various advanced control strategies to the boiler simulation, including split-range, ratio and feedforward control.
The learning systems for pH and conductivity processes introduce the students to these industrial processes using the appropriate instruments and controls. It also covers chemistry, titration, water ionisation, troubleshooting and other topics.
The learning systems for air pressure and flow processes introduce students to process devices and closed-loop control technology for air processes as well as to related troubleshooting. A single workstation contains all the equipment required for the compressed air experiments.
The PlantPAx™ Distributed Control System Demonstrator presents various process control technologies and strategies for pressure, flow rate and level processes and can monitor the temperature. It combines all these controls simultaneously and also uses PID control and offers the option of designing cascade control strategies. Find out more about this system in detail.
The strength of our product range for industrial closed-loop control technology is its flexibility, which increases the number of possible system configurations and options.
